One size fits one

I am fascinated by the concept of one size fits all.

I bought a baseball-style cap which claimed to be one size fits all. Clearly, they had never spoken to me because, even adjusted to its largest size, it wasn’t going anywhere near fitting my head.

Maybe that size does fit some – it certainly doesn’t fit all.

It’s the same in change leadership. You can’t expect to create a highly structured, heavily documented change plan that works for everyone. What are you doing to cater for the ones that it doesn’t fit?

And, I guess it is the same for people who insist on using the same methodology every time in every circumstance, without an ability to flex and adapt to cater for the nuances that are evident in every program of work.

If you are really lucky, you’ll find that one size fits some. Don’t fall into the “one size fits all” trap!
