Myth: Change Is Difficult

==========

We often hear people saying that change is difficult but it isn’t. What is difficult is the acceptance of change.

There are so many changes that we accept without a second thought. Every morning it changes from dark to light. We buy new cars and new houses. I am much taller now than when I was six years old.

Some of these changes are thrust upon us. Some are completely our choice.

Change is only hard to manage (deliberate choice of word) if you let it be hard to manage.

We think that are five things you can do to help with the acceptance of any change that you are leading (again deliberate word choice):

  1. Create certainty – the easiest way to do that is remove uncertainty.
  2. Engage with those who are impacted – listen to what they are saying and act upon it.
  3. Be truthful – don’t be one of those people who tell “white lies” to make it easier for you.
  4. Get amongst it – don’t be one of those change practitioners who lead from inside a closed project room
  5. Remember who is important in all of this

If you can deliver on these five things, we promise that the change will be better accepted and embraced.
